Off on a winter break?

If you're going to be away from home for a while, it's a good idea to turn off the water supply at the mains. At the very least, it's wise to turn off the taps to the washing machine and dishwasher.
This is because water pressure can build up in the pipes. It's especially noticeable in summer when local pressure builds up as a lot of people are away at the same time.
Once the inlet valve has been turned off, open up your taps to drain down the water from the pipework and shut them off again (so they're not open when you get back and turn on the water again).
Turning off the water supply will ensure your home doesn't get flooded by a burst pipe while you're away.
Happy holidays!
